Description
Pitch Drift by BABY Audio is a dedicated pitch modulation effect that introduces organic pitch fluctuations to digital audio. Powered by the Drift algorithm from BABY Audio's acclaimed Super VHS lo-fi plugin, it simulates the natural tuning instabilities found in acoustic instruments and analog tape playback.
Real acoustic instruments are never perfectly in tune, and those subtle pitch variations compound across a mix to create warmth and depth. Pitch Drift brings that human quality back to digitally precise tracks.
The Amount slider sets the depth of pitch fluctuation, ranging from barely perceptible organic drift to extreme detuning that renders audio clearly out of tune. Hovering the mouse over the interface adjusts modulation speed, with semi-fast settings producing the most natural results.
The plugin works particularly well on sustained tonal instruments like pads, strings, and keys, where gentle settings add lifelike movement. On mix busses it can glue elements together with a shared sense of analog imperfection.
Cranked to higher settings, Pitch Drift becomes a creative lo-fi tool producing VHS-style tape warble and deliberate pitch chaos. It is available in VST, VST3, AU, and AAX formats for Windows 7 and up and macOS 10.7 and up, with full Apple Silicon M1 compatibility.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the speed control work in Pitch Drift?
Instead of a traditional knob, you control modulation speed by hovering your mouse over the plugin's interface. Moving the cursor adjusts how fast the pitch fluctuations cycle. Semi-fast settings sound the most natural, while very slow or very fast speeds create more pronounced creative effects.
What is the relationship between Pitch Drift and BABY Audio Super VHS?
Pitch Drift uses the same Drift algorithm found in BABY Audio's paid Super VHS plugin. Super VHS is a full lo-fi multi-effects suite with six modules including saturation, chorus, sample rate reduction, reverb, and the Drift pitch effect. Pitch Drift isolates just the pitch modulation component as a standalone freeware plugin.
What types of audio material does Pitch Drift work best on?
It works best at subtle levels on sustained tonal instruments like pads, strings, keys, and vocals, where the pitch drift adds organic movement. On mix busses it can add shared analog character. As a rule of thumb, the less sustained your source material is, the faster you should set the speed parameter.
Can Pitch Drift be used as a vibrato or chorus effect?
While Pitch Drift modulates pitch similarly to vibrato, it is designed to produce random, organic fluctuations rather than a steady cyclic vibrato. At higher speed and depth settings it can produce wobble effects reminiscent of worn tape or damaged VHS playback, making it more of a lo-fi character tool than a traditional vibrato or chorus.
