Key Features

  • Four drag-and-drop sample layers with waveform views and per-layer volume, pitch, start, shift, and fade controls.
  • Dice controls can randomize samples and parameters together or separately while layer locks preserve parts that already work.
  • Back recall makes it easier to recover the previous generated combination after an experimental roll.
  • Per-trigger evolution, random round robin playback, burst repeat, and chromatic key tracking help one-shots change across repeated MIDI notes.
  • Glitch Mode adds randomized delays, stutters, crackles, sample-and-hold artifacts, and visual changes for more aggressive sound design.
  • Scalable interface presets and twenty persistent color schemes support different screen sizes and visual preferences.

Description

Sample Dicer is a four-layer one-shot sampler for building playable variations from raw audio. Load sounds into the four slots, shape each layer, then use the Dice controls to randomize samples and parameters while keeping useful layers locked.

The workflow is aimed at sound effects, percussion, glitches, transitions, and other short sounds that need movement instead of identical repetition. Per-trigger evolution, random round robin playback, burst repeat, and chromatic key tracking make it useful for game audio, post work, live triggering, and electronic music sessions.

It also makes sense as a sketchpad for sample-library creation because a single folder of source sounds can become a family of related hits quickly. The separate Samples and Params dice actions are especially useful when you want either a fresh source sound or a new set of timing, level, and pitch variations.

The plugin stays lightweight and direct: the official page lists no launcher, no registration, a small download size, scalable interface presets, twenty color themes, and standalone operation on macOS. The license is indie-friendly rather than unrestricted for every business, so larger companies or high-budget projects need a separate commercial license.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Sample Dicer different from loading a one-shot into a basic sampler?

It is built around four layers and controlled randomization rather than simple playback. You can roll new sample and parameter combinations, lock the layers you like, and use round robin or per-trigger evolution to avoid repeated identical hits.

Can Sample Dicer be used for commercial work?

Yes, but the free indie license has revenue and project-budget limits. The license allows eligible commercial and noncommercial work while requiring a paid commercial license if company revenue reaches USD 1,000,000 or a project budget reaches USD 250,000.

Is Sample Dicer only for drums?

No. The developer positions it for game audio, film, sound design, live performance, rapid prototyping, sample-library creation, and music production, so it also fits impacts, foley, creature sounds, UI hits, glitches, fills, and transitions.
