Description

Stepocea by Flandersh Tech is a polyphonic stereo synthesizer built around a counterpoint engine that layers four independent melodic lines into a single voice. Each of its four oscillators has its own arpeggiator, pan control, and dedicated convolution reverb, so every layer can run a different rhythmic pattern while occupying its own space in the stereo field.

Dual multitype filters with envelope and LFO modulation shape the tone, while dual amp and mod envelopes control dynamics and movement. The result is a synth purpose-built for evolving pads and massive leads that shift between tension and resolution without manual automation.

The counterpoint approach sets Stepocea apart from typical polysynths by using independent arpeggiators to create interlocking melodic patterns that drift in and out of harmonic alignment. This makes it especially effective for cinematic scoring where emotional ambiguity enhances a scene.

A built-in oscilloscope and spectrum meter provide real-time visual feedback on the combined output. The interface keeps all four oscillator channels visible at once, so adjusting the interplay between layers stays intuitive even in complex patches.

Stepocea runs as a 64-bit VST3 plugin on Windows 8.1 or higher. The installer is 13 MB and has been tested with PreSonus Studio One Pro.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Stepocea different from other polyphonic synthesizers?

Stepocea is built around counterpoint rather than simple layering. Each of its four oscillators has its own independent arpeggiator, so you can run four different rhythmic and melodic patterns simultaneously within a single patch. This creates evolving harmonic interactions that standard polysynths cannot produce without external MIDI tools.

Can Stepocea be used for cinematic and film scoring?

Yes, cinematic work is one of its strongest use cases. The counterpoint engine creates pads that drift between consonance and dissonance naturally, producing the kind of emotional ambiguity that works well under dialogue or transitional scenes. The individual convolution reverbs per oscillator also help place each layer in a different spatial context.

Does Stepocea support macOS or Linux?

No, Stepocea is currently Windows-only (Windows 8.1 or higher). It runs as a 64-bit VST3 plugin, so you need a DAW that supports the VST3 format. There is no macOS, Linux, or AU/AAX version available.
