Description

TRAX is a transient designer plugin from Analog Obsession that provides precise control over the attack and sustain of any audio signal. Originally one of the developer's earliest creations, it was completely rebuilt from scratch to deliver cleaner processing and a modernized interface.

The Attack knob boosts or attenuates the initial impact of transients, making sounds sharper and more defined or smoother and rounder. The Sustain knob adjusts how quickly the transient tail dies off, letting you tighten up or extend the body of a sound.

A clean Output stage offers +/-15dB of gain compensation, which is especially useful when boosting both Attack and Sustain simultaneously. Clicking the Analog Obsession logo engages 4x oversampling for higher-fidelity processing at the cost of additional CPU.

TRAX excels on drums and percussion, whether sharpening a dull kick, adding snap to a snare, or taming harsh hi-hats. It handles acoustic guitars, vocals, and other dynamic material with a natural-sounding character that avoids the artifacts common in less refined transient shapers.

The plugin is available in AU, VST, and VST3 formats for macOS (10.9 through 12.x) and Windows (7, 8, 10, 11). Both 64-bit installers come in at a modest download size, making it a lightweight addition to any mixing toolkit.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I enable oversampling in TRAX?

Click the Analog Obsession logo on the plugin interface to engage 4x oversampling. This improves processing fidelity but uses more CPU, so enable it when you need the cleanest possible results on critical tracks.

What types of material does TRAX work best on?

TRAX is particularly effective on drums and percussion, where it can add snap to kicks and snares or tame harsh cymbals. It also handles acoustic guitars, vocals, and any material with prominent transients that need shaping.

Can TRAX reduce transients as well as boost them?

Yes, both the Attack and Sustain knobs work in both directions. Turning them down attenuates transients or shortens tails, which is useful for smoothing out overly aggressive sounds or reducing room ambience.
