Key Features

  • Four independent alias-free wavetable oscillator banks with up to 24-oscillator unison for dense, animated synth voices.
  • Deep wavetable editor supports Bezier drawing, cycle reshaping, morphing, phase shifting, and drag-and-drop Serum or Icarus table import.
  • Hybrid engine combines wavetable, additive, FM, sampler, and granular synthesis for sounds that can move beyond a single synthesis style.
  • Sampler section loads WAV, AIFF, OGG, and MP3 material, with loop handling, zero-crossing detection, key tracking, and sample-to-wavetable resampling.
  • Five editable MSEG envelopes and three DAW-synced step sequencers provide detailed movement and rhythmic modulation.
  • MPE input, automatable controls, a scalable interface, and real-time modulation visualization make expressive performance and detailed programming easier to follow.

Description

Vaporizer2 is an open-source hybrid wavetable synthesizer, sampler, and workstation from VAST Dynamics for creating animated electronic sounds from custom or imported waveforms. Its four independent wavetable oscillator banks, additive section, FM chains, sampler, and granular mode give it a far broader palette than a straightforward virtual-analog synth.

The wavetable editor is the centerpiece: it can draw tables with Bezier curves, reshape cycles, morph and phase-shift them, and import Serum- or Icarus-format tables by drag and drop. That makes Vaporizer2 especially useful for producers who want to turn a single-cycle waveform or sample into evolving pads, moving basses, sharp digital leads, or unfamiliar hybrid textures.

VAST Dynamics also builds in flexible modulation and sequencing rather than leaving the instrument dependent on external effects. Five editable MSEG envelopes, three DAW-synced step sequencers, MPE support, modulation visualization, filters, effect busses, and per-oscillator wavetable effects support both precise patch programming and more experimental sound design.

The current VAST Dynamics download page identifies version 3.5.0 and links to the developer's official GitHub release. The developer states that Vaporizer2 became GPL-3 open source in version 3.3.0, with the full version available without a license or activation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Vaporizer2 still permanently available?

Yes. VAST Dynamics states that Vaporizer2 became GPL-3 open-source software with version 3.3.0, and its current downloads page says the full version can be installed without a license or activation. The page currently links to the developer's official 3.5.0 GitHub release.

Can Vaporizer2 import Serum wavetables?

Yes. The official product page says it can import and alter standard Serum and Icarus-format wavetables through drag and drop. It also includes its own wavetable editor for reshaping or creating material inside the plugin.

Is Vaporizer2 only a wavetable synth?

No. Alongside its wavetable oscillator banks, the instrument includes additive synthesis, FM synthesis, a sampler section, and granular mode. Those sections make it suitable for hybrid sounds that combine oscillator design and sampled material.

Which plugin formats does Vaporizer2 support?

The VAST Dynamics product page lists VST2, VST3, AU, and AAX plugins, plus a standalone version for macOS and Windows. Its current 3.5.0 release notes also refer to CLAP builds, while KVR lists LV2 support for Linux.
