A1TriggerGate
Key Features
- Creates tempo-synced rhythmic gate patterns from incoming audio rather than only reducing noise.
- Uses four-beat patterns with 16 steps in Normal mode or 12 steps in Triplet mode.
- Gives each step its own length behavior and volume level for more shaped patterns.
- Stores eight independent patterns that can be switched through automation.
- Includes low-pass filter, drive/distortion, and echo/delay processors for additional motion.
- Provides random pattern commands, an AHDSR envelope, undo/redo, and full parameter automation.
- Uses a resizable vector interface and zero-latency processing.
Description
A1TriggerGate is a tempo-synced sequenced gate from Alex Hilton's A1AUDIO that turns an incoming signal into a programmed rhythmic pattern. It is built for the familiar trance-gate effect, but its host-synced step editor also gives pads, vocals, drums, and loops a more deliberate pulse or chopped contour.
A four-beat pattern holds 16 steps in Normal mode or 12 in Triplet mode, and each step has its own length behavior and volume setting. Eight independent patterns can be automated, so a part can change its rhythm between sections without manually redrawing a sequence.
The integrated low-pass filter, drive/distortion, and echo/delay add movement without requiring another effects chain, while Global FX Off lets you audition patterns without those processors. Random pattern commands and the AHDSR envelope support quick ideas as well as tighter control over the gate's shape.
A1TriggerGate provides a resizable vector interface, parameter automation, undo/redo, and zero-latency processing. The current A1AUDIO downloads page lists version 1.44 for Windows and macOS in VST2, VST3, AU, and AAX formats, with the macOS download adding AU support.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does A1TriggerGate do?
It applies a programmed, tempo-synced gate pattern to incoming audio, alternately passing and attenuating the signal. That creates the pulsing or chopped movement often associated with trance-gate effects.
How many patterns can A1TriggerGate store?
It has eight independent patterns. The patterns can be switched with automation, making it possible to change rhythmic movement across a project without rebuilding each sequence.
What is Triplet mode for?
Triplet mode changes the pattern to 12 steps across four beats rather than the 16-step Normal-mode layout. It is useful when a straight sixteenth-note pattern does not fit the groove you want.
Does A1TriggerGate include effects beyond the gate?
Yes. It includes low-pass filter, drive/distortion, and echo/delay sections, plus a Global FX Off switch for auditioning pattern changes without the integrated effects.
