Key Features

  • Three independently configurable sound layers combine organic, analog, and EMF-derived source material.
  • Per-layer microtonal sequencers use randomization and probability to create evolving movement and changing voicings.
  • A morphable sub-oscillator adds controllable low-end foundation beneath the layered sound sources.
  • Custom one-knob effect chains provide quick tonal transformation, from subtle reinforcement to stronger grit and motion.
  • Delay and reverb sends, plus master-bus overdrive, compression, EQ, and maximization, keep core sound shaping inside the instrument.
  • Includes 100 editable presets designed by Venus Theory and the UVI sound-design team.
  • Runs in UVI Workstation or Falcon, with standalone and major plug-in-format support through those hosts.

Description

Noctua is a cinematic soundscape instrument from UVI and Venus Theory that layers organic, analog, and EMF-derived sources into dark pads, evolving atmospheres, and unusual tonal beds. It runs in the free UVI Workstation as well as Falcon, making it a focused route into the project's processed hardware and field-recording palette rather than a conventional subtractive synth.

Three sound layers can be shaped independently with microtonal sequencers, including randomization and probability controls for movement that is less grid-bound than a static pad patch. A morphable sub-oscillator provides low-end weight, while one-knob effect chains turn the supplied sources toward more texture, grit, or performance variation.

The instrument also includes delay and reverb sends plus master-bus overdrive, compression, EQ, and maximization, so a single preset can be taken from a sparse atmospheric idea to a more finished cinematic layer without leaving the interface. Its 100 editable presets cover brooding, nuanced, and more abrasive material, giving composers useful starting points while leaving the layers open to deeper reshaping.

Noctua is still presented by UVI as a free product, with a live Get it free control on the official page. The 1.01 GB soundbank needs UVI Workstation 3.1.11 or Falcon 3, an iLok account, and internet access for licensing; the external UVI page remains the download route because it manages the required account and activation flow.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Noctua a standalone synth or a soundbank for another host?

Noctua runs in UVI Workstation 3.1.11 or later and Falcon 3. UVI Workstation is available at no charge, while Falcon is UVI's full instrument platform.

What makes Noctua useful for cinematic sound design?

It combines organic, analog, and electromagnetic sources in three independently sequenced layers. The microtonal sequencers, effect chains, spatial effects, and master-bus processing are designed to create detailed movement and changing texture from a single instrument.

How many sounds are included?

The official page lists 100 hand-crafted, editable presets, three layers, and 632 samples. The sources were designed, recorded, and processed by Venus Theory with the UVI sound-design team.

What accounts are needed to use Noctua?

UVI lists a free iLok account and an internet connection for license activation among the requirements. The official Get it free route also handles the UVI product claim and license delivery, so users should expect an account-based activation process rather than a direct archive link.
