Description
Sanford Delay is a stereo delay effect by Leslie Sanford of Sanford Sound Design, originally released in 2008 and updated to version 2.7 with full 64-bit Windows support. The plugin focuses on doing one thing well: delivering clean, responsive stereo delay with minimal CPU overhead.
Delay times can be set independently for the left and right channels, with each side syncable to the host DAW's tempo. A highpass and lowpass filter pair in the feedback path lets you shape the tone of each repeat, rolling off highs for natural tape-style decay or cutting lows for a thinner, more atmospheric trail.
Panning the feedback across the stereo field creates classic ping-pong delay effects, while the infinite feedback mode and built-in soft clipper open up more experimental territory. Driving the feedback harder introduces gentle saturation that keeps runaway repeats musically usable rather than harsh.
Version 2.7 also brought the plugin to 64-bit, making it compatible with modern DAW environments. The interface is deliberately minimal, with just the essential controls visible, so there is nothing between you and the sound.
With a download size under 1 MB and virtually no CPU impact, Sanford Delay is the kind of utility plugin that earns a permanent spot in your effects folder for quick, reliable delay work.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Sanford Delay work on macOS or Linux?
No. Sanford Delay is available only as a VST plugin for Windows (both 32-bit and 64-bit). There is no macOS, Linux, or AU/AAX version. Leslie Sanford's entire plugin lineup is Windows-exclusive.
Can Sanford Delay sync to my DAW's tempo?
Yes. Both the left and right delay channels can be independently synced to the host DAW's BPM. You can also set delay times manually in milliseconds, up to one second per channel.
What does the soft clipper in the feedback path do?
The soft clipper gently saturates the delay signal when feedback is pushed high. Instead of harsh digital clipping on runaway repeats, the sound stays warm and musically usable, which is especially helpful when using infinite feedback mode for dub-style delay swells.
