SoundObject
Key Features
- Turns a mono input into binaural or transaural-style spatial playback with selectable output monitoring.
- Uses interaural timing and level cues alongside sphere and pinna scattering for directional localization.
- Adds six-direction reflected waves in a configurable reverberation room to shape distance and depth.
- Provides rectangular and polar position controls plus top-view and rear-view pads for spatial placement.
- Includes distance attenuation, room reflectance, and reflected-wave low-pass controls for tuning the virtual scene.
- Adds Doppler behavior when an acoustic source moves, rather than treating movement as only level panning.
- Supports 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, and 96 kHz sample rates in VST3 hosts.
Description
SoundObject is a VST3 spatial-audio effect that takes a mono source and places it in a three-dimensional scene for binaural headphone playback or stereo-speaker playback. Its controls expose source position, room dimensions, attenuation, reflectance, filtering, and output mode, making it suited to deliberate placement rather than a simple left-right pan.
The processor models interaural time and level differences, then combines simplified sphere scattering with a machine-learned pinna-scattering filter to create directional cues. It also creates reflected waves in a configurable reverberation room, so front/back and up/down placement can be adjusted alongside the apparent distance.
Motion is part of the design: its resampling path adds Doppler behavior as a source moves, while the interface offers rectangular coordinates, polar coordinates, a top-view XY pad, and a rear-view YZ pad for setting location. You can monitor the combined result or inspect direct, reflected, scattered, and incident-wave components while building the spatial scene.
SoundObject is a specialist creative and post-production tool for mono elements that need a fixed or moving point in space. It supports 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, and 96 kHz sessions, and the current developer-controlled binary repository provides separate Windows and macOS builds under a no-charge CC BY 4.0 license.

Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of source does SoundObject process?
SoundObject is designed around a monaural acoustic source and its position information. It then creates a spatial result for headphone-based binaural listening or stereo-speaker-based playback.
Can SoundObject create depth as well as left-right movement?
Yes. The plug-in uses room reflections and distance attenuation alongside its directional filtering, so the position controls cover apparent distance as well as horizontal and vertical direction.
Does SoundObject include a Doppler effect?
Yes. Its developer describes a resampling path that adds Doppler behavior whenever the source moves. Position can be entered through rectangular or polar coordinates, or set with the graphical pads.
Which platforms and format are supplied?
The official binary repository lists separate Windows and macOS archives and identifies SoundObject as a VST3 plug-in. The official documentation states 64bit Windows 11 and macOS 10.14 as the supported OS environments.
