Key Features

  • Duplicates incoming audio into as many as sixteen related voices for layered sound-design textures.
  • Six monophonic modulators and four macro sliders provide global motion and performance control.
  • Six polyphonic modulators create per-voice variation while keeping the duplicated parts cohesive.
  • Three serial effect slots let each duplicated voice pass through built-in processing before recombination.
  • Visual point-based modulation makes it easier to connect shape movement with audible changes.
  • Built-in effects cover all-pass filtering, classic filtering, volume, panning, delay, diffusion, and distortion.
  • Cross-platform plugin support covers Windows, Apple Silicon macOS, and Linux in modern plugin formats.

Description

Fogbank is a creative expander and multiplier plugin from Vain Audio that duplicates an incoming sound up to sixteen times, then lets each copy move through its own effect values. It is built for broad sound-design motion rather than simple dynamics expansion, with VST3 and CLAP support on Windows and Linux plus AU, VST3, and CLAP support on Apple Silicon macOS systems.

The core workflow combines four macros, six monophonic modulators, six polyphonic modulators, and three serial effect slots. That gives you one interface for turning a single synth, vocal, drum hit, or texture into a layered cloud of related voices.

Fogbank's per-voice visualizers make the modulation concept easier to read than a conventional matrix. Each point represents one duplicated voice, so shape changes and transformations map directly to audible differences in pan, level, filtering, delay, diffusion, or distortion.

The plugin was built for the KVR Developer Challenge 2026, and the developer page still lists it as a free download. It is strongest when used as an experimental movement generator for pads, drones, percussion loops, risers, transition effects, and other material that benefits from controlled complexity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Fogbank a dynamics expander or a creative multi-effect?

Vain Audio describes Fogbank as an expander and multiplier, but its main purpose is creative duplication and sound design. It duplicates the input into multiple voices and applies modulators and effects to shape how those voices differ.

How many voices can Fogbank create?

The official page says Fogbank can duplicate a sound up to sixteen times. BPB's KVR Developer Challenge coverage also describes an adjustable voice count with up to sixteen duplicated voices.

What makes the modulation system different?

Fogbank separates monophonic modulation from polyphonic per-voice modulation. Each point in the polyphonic visualizer represents a voice, so visual shapes can be transformed into related differences across the duplicated copies.

What effects are built into Fogbank?

The source coverage lists all-pass filtering, classic filtering, volume, panning, delay, diffuser, and distortion as built-in effects. These can be used with per-voice values as part of the plugin's multiplier workflow.
